We weren’t going to leave this morning, but after talking to some other boats that went out we decided to go as well.   I had fallen asleep and woke up to Colin creating quite a commotion.  We had gotten a log lodged behind the outdrive and could not get it out.  After much fiddling around we got it out but noticed a strange noise coming from the one engine.   We went as far as Cedar Key and dropped anchor.  We were about to lower the dingy and go into shore when I saw water coming out of the bilge pump in steady stream.  Upon closer observation we discovered that we were taking on water.   We hooked up our new, large pump and had to leave the generator running all night to keep the pumps going.  Not a very restful night sleep.

We left Cedar Key at first light, as we had to make a long run, and with only one engine we were not going to make our destination of Tarpon Springs before dark.  It was a long day but we made it and pulled into the entrance channel to Tarpon Springs in the dark.  I stood on the bow with a spot light and radio and we felt our way into the Marina that was going to haul us.  It was a good feeling to be tied to a dock and hooked up to hydro to run the pump.

Cedar Key really early

They hauled us first thing this morning and got right to work to repair the damage.  Novel concept, these people actually get moving quickly!  Parts are being ordered! It’s just a hive of activity.
Tarpon Springs is a totally neat place.  The river going into the town, is lined on both sides with crab boats, shrimpers, and sponge boats.  The one section of town is predominately Greek in origin.  Lot of little shops and some excellent Greek Restaurants.  A very pretty little town.

He guards our spot on the dock

Someones fishing in my spot!!

He should look up!

This will be our last update  until after we get back from our 1 month break back in Canada.   Personally it just seems wrong to be leaving this warm sunshine to back to ice and snow and cold temperatures.
We will continue our journey and the tale of our adventure January 12th, 2003.  In the mean time Colin and I wish you and yours the best of the Christmas Season and a Very Prosperous new year.
